Dear Travelers, Creators, and Advocates,
As Black Girls On The Go®/Black Girl Travel Movement™ celebrates ten years of wanderlust and empowerment, we stand at a crossroads. Our journey, marked by both triumphs and trials, has brought us face to face with a challenge that strikes at the heart of our values: the protection and respect of intellectual property within our community.
Our creation, nurtured with dedication and passion, has been co-opted. Our vintage marketing content, imbued with the soul of our mission, now carries a trademark that is not ours. This issue transcends the reuse of our materials; it's a testament to the erosion of authenticity and respect that we've witnessed.
Amidst this, we've been met with cease-and-desist letters lacking merit and challenges to my personal journey as the founder. My dual life, balancing a pivotal role in a top-secret government position and spearheading a movement for black women's empowerment, was chosen to ensure that our achievements stood on their own, without the shadow of my professional stature influencing our shared successes.
Despite these ordeals, our partnerships with esteemed brands like Black Travel Summit, Sisters Traveling Solo, Vacation Envy International, and Busy Bee Travel exemplify the power of collaboration over competition. These alliances affirm that our message resonates—a message of inclusion, empowerment, and mutual growth.
Yet, the irony persists. Our open hands, extended to various organizations advocating for inclusivity, have often grasped at the air. But let it be known, our resolve is unshaken. Our vision for a unified, respectful black travel space remains clear.
Here is Our Call to Action:
#StandWithBGOTG: Share your stories of intellectual property challenges and how you've navigated them. Your voice matters.
#ProtectOurJourney: Let us collectively advocate for the protection of our creations. Support legal reforms and ethical guidelines that shield our work.
#EthicsInTravel: Encourage open discussions about ethical practices within our space. Let's elevate the standard together.
#UnityInTravel: Connect with us and others who champion integrity. Build bridges, not barriers, in our shared spaces.
This is not merely a call to right a wrong—it's an invocation for all of us to embody the principles we admire. We urge every member of the black travel community to join us in setting a precedent for ethical conduct and respect for each other's intellectual endeavors.
Join the Movement:
Engage with us on our platforms as we spearhead initiatives to safeguard our collective intellectual property.
Participate in our upcoming webinars and roundtable discussions focused on ethical practices in the black travel space.
Amplify this message using our hashtags and let the world know where we stand.
Together, we can ensure that the next decade is defined not by the struggles we faced but by the integrity we upheld and the community we fortified. Our history is rich with stories of overcoming and triumph; let this chapter be no different.
In Solidarity and with Resolve,
[Your Name], Founder of Black Girls On The Go®/Black Girl Travel Movement™
